1957 Baseball Year in Review
Preseason Highlights
-
The offseason saw minor transactions, but no significant activity until closer to Spring Training.
-
The Los Angeles Stars made key moves:
- Traded for Lou Allen, the 30th-ranked prospect, from the Cannons. Allen, a 21-year-old center fielder, displayed promise with power and defensive ability, joining a strong pool of outfield prospects.
- Sent rookie Johnny Elliot and defensive catcher Fred Becvar to Cincinnati. Elliot, coming off a stellar rookie campaign (.356/.418/.528), provided much-needed stability at first base for the Cannons.
-
Another notable deal involved the Stars trading Paul Watson, their long-time shortstop, to the St. Louis Pioneers for two prospects, Carl Bristol and Jack F. Davis. Bristol, a former #1 overall pick, and Davis, a near-MLB-ready pitcher, strengthened the Stars' farm system.
