| Nagasaki Triumphs with Late Surge | The Nagasaki Stars beat the Kobe Bulls by a score of 11-6. Nagasaki right fielder Teruhi Hirai deserved the lion's share of the credit. Hirai was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Stars. The triumph puts Nagasaki at 76-54 for the season.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Kunizo Yoshikawa came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kobe pitcher Yasuhiko Hidaka, he hit a 0-1 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Nagasaki on top, 8-6.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Yoshikawa.
