Moore and Nox Mock Draft

Pick 1: Philadelphia Frigates
Larry Moore: Sam Burson - QB
This guy understands what it means to be a pro. Respected for his good behavior on the field. Liked by coaches and teammates. A howitzer for an arm. They will be running to the podium for this one.

Jim Nox: Rollie Waldorf - T
Well liked in the locker room. Has sufficient strength to play with the big boys in the pros. Understands and likes blocking on running plays. This is a kid who can step right in and perform like a pro in that area. Superb when pass blocking. Maintains his balance, turns the defender away, and buys time for the quarterback. They are loving this about him. He fills a hole at the position. Blue-chip player. Will fit right in and start right away. Love it.

Pick 2: Detroit Maroons
Larry Moore: Tripp Winkel - T
This guy understands what it means to be a pro. Even if he is not the strongest, coaches like his strength. And he has enough of it. In the run game he blocks well, shows tenacity and opens lanes. This will benefit the team. He pass blocks with great leverage, balance and technique. They will be running to the podium for this one.

Jim Nox: Tripp Winkel - T
Knows what it takes to achieve success at any level. He has sufficient strength to have a chance against grown men on the defensive line. This is a guy who is already a pretty good blocker in the run game. Excels in the passing game. Head and shoulders above most kids coming out. People always say you should not prioritize needs over quality. That is not an issue here, they get to have their cake and eat it too.

Pick 3: Chicago Wildcats
Larry Moore: Mark Ferber - T
This guy understands what it means to be a pro. What can I say? The guy loves to win and it shows on the field. Even though this is a youngster right out of college, he is strong like a grown man. Nice blocking skills on run plays. He will contribute to the running game. Something that scouts highight is how well he pass blocks. You do not pick him this high if he could not protect the QB. The stars align for them to get him here. Just what they need. Blue-chip player with great upside. Hard to botch this pick.

Jim Nox: Mark Ferber - T
His college coaches talk highly of his work ethic. This is a kid, where if you are winning he will shine, but he might have trouble with adversity. With the amount this youngster can already benchpres, he will only ever have to focus on improving technique. In the run game he blocks well, shows tenacity and opens lanes. This will benefit the team. Pass blocking against professional players makes for a difficult transition from college. But the tape indicates he will do well in that regard. They would be crazy not to take him here. A great fit, both in terms of what they need and the quality of player they get. This will put a smile on many faces.

Pick 4: Washington Wasps
Larry Moore: Danny Bolte - DE
Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. This kid never gives up, losing is unacceptable to him. His strength will benefit him both against the run and when passrushing. This is definitely one of his premier qualities. So fast. You could drop him into coverage if you wanted. If you miss your block on this guy, he will be in the face of the QB before he has even finished dropping back. Scouts like how well he tackles. When the available talent fits what you need, there is reason to celebrate. They are getting a great talent who will serve them for many years.

Jim Nox: Wayne Nicolai - LB
Need a leader? He is your guy. Sportsmanship, love of the sport and respect, is what you get with him. Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. A great tackler. Consistent. Hard hitting. A force to be reckoned with. This young man can hold his own in the weight room. And he is strong enough to hold his own on the field as well. He closes so fast. Offensive tackles will learn that the hard way. They almost have to make this pick. You do not want to look back in five years and see this kid on another team knowing he could have been yours.

Pick 5: Boston Americans
Larry Moore: Joe Duell - SS
Raised to know the value of hard work. He is fundamentally a good kid. You rarely see him commit stupid penalties. This is a kid who really contributes to the team spirit and the social cohesiveness on the team. You cannot coach speed. Even if you could, this guy would not need it. It is clear from his tape, that he wraps up well on tackles. Bright kid, reacts well on the field. They should not be afraid to fill a need here. He will start day one. Quality pick right here.

Jim Nox: Joe Duell - SS
Knows what it takes to achieve success at any level. He is fundamentally a good kid. You rarely see him commit stupid penalties. Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. Has the speed play any position in the defensive backfield. Love that versatility, it give the defense a lot of options in terms of schemes. I like the way he tackles. Wraps up the ball carrier and drags him down. No need to take chances. A really smart kid. It is not often that the talent available fits perfectly with what you need. When it does, it makes for a win-win situation. This young man is going to be put in a position to succeed.

Pick 6: St. Louis Ramblers
Larry Moore: Wayne Nicolai - LB
Coaches love the leadership skills in this kid. He is fundamentally a good kid. You rarely see him commit stupid penalties. Well liked in the locker room. Just watch the way he tackles. No nonsense there. Hard hitting. Wraps up. And if possible, go for the ball. Will do so much for this defense. His physical foundation given him an nice ceiling. Mightily fast on his first step. Could become a true sack machine. He will get a great chance to earn the starting job. He fits what they are looking for. He is a solid player. Cannot go wrong here.

Jim Nox: Lou Lawlor - LB
He takes care of his teammates. Most everyone who ever played with him, counts him as their friend. The impact on his tackles strikes awe in spectators. He is sure to produce some highlight reel takedowns in his career. Really strong. Will push through blocks. So fast. You could drop him into coverage if you wanted. If you miss your block on this guy, he will be in the face of the QB before he has even finished dropping back. Fill a need, get a quality player, everyone wins! He will fit right in with the pros.

Pick 7: Cleveland Finches
Larry Moore: Lou Lawlor - LB
Known for helping out teammates, if they hit a rough patch, whether it is on the field or in their personal lives. I do not think anyone would like to be tackled by this guy. Just from his college tape the pros should already be scared of him. Really strong. Will push through blocks. This young man is fast enough to drop even the fast RBs for losses is they come his way. He fills a hole at the position. Blue-chip player. Will fit right in and start right away. Love it.

Jim Nox: Johnny Krug - T
This guy sticks with his teammates, through thick and thin. His love for winning leads him to push himself hard, setting an example for everyone. He has the strength to throw defenders around, and not just the linebackers. A tenacious blocker in the running game. He will open lanes. Needless to say this appeals to a lot of teams. His pass blocking skills is something teams like about him. Love this kid. Am looking forward to seeing him play. He will do great things for the franchise.

Pick 8: Los Angeles Tigers
Larry Moore: Bill Tighe - C
This kid puts in the work. The guy has gets along with everyone. This is a young man who will bench press a Defensive Tackle, and not a small one! Superb in the run game. Takes on defenders with tenacity and finishes his blocks. Something that scouts highight is how well he pass blocks. You do not pick him this high if he could not protect the QB. Solid talent that fits their needs. Really that is all there is to it. Perfect situation. Take the money and run.

Jim Nox: Bill Tighe - C
Raised to know the value of hard work. The guy has gets along with everyone. Rarely do a player this young bench pres this much. This kind of physical foundation given him an incredible ceiling. A tenacious blocker in the running game. He will open lanes. Needless to say this appeals to a lot of teams. Protects the QB well on pass plays. You can never have enough good pass blockers. They should not be afraid to fill a need here. He will start day one. Quality pick right here.

This kid never gives up, losing is unacceptable to him. Has the speed play any position in the defensive backfield. Love that versatility, it give the defense a lot of options in terms of schemes. Finishes tackles well. Educated well. Shows good understanding of the game. He fills a need for them. They will be happy to get him.

Jim Nox: Dave Warfield - SS
He wants to win! Excellent speed. Can be asked to cover Wide Receivers. Can come down quickly into the box to snuff out run plays. Tackles low and with good technique. Coaches like his instincts. Do not be afraid to draft a position of need here. This kid is well worthy of a pick this early. Perfect situation for him, and great fit for the team.

Pick 10: Pittsburgh Paladins
Larry Moore: Bill Kost - C
This is a kid, where if you are winning he will shine, but he might have trouble with adversity. This guy is built like a tank. Nice blocking skills on run plays. He will contribute to the running game. His pass blocking skills is something teams like about him. Fill a need, get a quality player, everyone wins! He will fit right in with the pros.

Jim Nox: Joe Whitlow - C
This kid is not afraid to work hard. The guy has gets along with everyone. With the amount this youngster can already benchpres, he will only ever have to focus on improving technique. Understands and likes blocking on running plays. This is a kid who can step right in and perform like a pro in that area. This young man is already an excellent pass blocker. Ability to protect the QB that certainly draws the attention of coaches. They need playmakers at this position. This is what they are getting here. Solid pick.

Coaching Carousel Predictions.

The offseason is upon us and that means teams are shaking up their coaching staffs. This means that we get to take our annual look at coordinators who could make the leap to become head coaches, and the teams who are likely to poach them.

The prime candidates identified by our experts are:
Steve Kelly - Offensive Coordinator - Boston Americans
Steve McKnight - Defensive Coordinator - Pittsburgh Paladins
Freeman Stahlberg - Offensive Coordinator - Pittsburgh Paladins
Wilbur Finch - Defensive Coordinator - Kansas City Cowboys
Bugs Rudolph - Defensive Coordinator - San Francisco Wings
Jim Wilcoxen - Defensive Coordinator - Cleveland Finches
Dewey Burnett - Offensive Coordinator - Cleveland Finches

As always, we are prone to wild speculations, so we asked our in-house experts to do a little matchmaking between candidates and teams. Here is what they came up with:

Mary Moore:
Jim Wilcoxen leaves the Finches to become the head coach for the Philadelphia Frigates.

Darren Francis:
I think the Wings lose Bugs Rudolph and I see him heading to Boston Americans.

Jim Nox:
The Cowboys cannot hold on to Wilbur Finch. I would like to see him coach the Cleveland Finches.

Jeremy Piper:
I see Steve Kelly being promoted to head coach of the Boston Americans.
