Martin's job security has been in doubt for some time, as the Maroons have lost games, whiffed on key draft picks and not been able to engineer a turnaround through free agency.
Martin seemed ready to move on, and even before today's announcement few observers expected him to stick around into next season.

The team had not been performing up to expectations, and it was thought to be just a matter of time before the move was made.

Buck was rumored to be on the chopping block for some time, and the team ownership had apparently had enough of the club's lack of success.
"We had a good relationship, but we just didn't make enough progress under his leadership," general manager Lawrence Hall said. "We thought we gave him everything he needed for success, but it just didn't happen."
