 | Lords Goes 5-for-5 Tuesday, October 9th , 1917 Mike Lords told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard." Well, that's just what Lords of the Sacramento Maroons did against the Seattle Warriors. He went to the plate 5 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, but his club still suffered a defeat, 6-5. "Not much I can say," offered Lords in the postgame press conference. "I got a bunch of hits, but it would have been much better to get a win. Can I trade 5 hits for the win?" Mike Lords singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th. So far this year, Lords is batting .323 with 4 home runs, 98 RBIs and 98 runs scored. | |
