 | Hayakawa Hurls 1-0 Shutout Saturday, May 26th , 1962 The Yokohama Kingfishers had no answer for Rakisuta Rams pitcher Sadato Hayakawa. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Yokohama managed only 5 hits off Hayakawa, who had 7 strikeouts. The extraordinarily popular Hayakawa got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd. "Rams fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible." Up to now Hayakawa has compiled an ERA of 3.38 with a 1-1 mark over 6 starts. He has 36 strikeouts in 42.2 innings and has held opponents to a .242 batting average.
