 | 2000 Hits for Arai Tuesday, September 10th , 1974 The Kyoto contest with Hosho featured a real shining moment: Bungo Arai, the Owls shortstop, collected career base hit #2000. That his team lost the game, 7-2, took away only a little bit of the luster. Fittingly, the 36-year-old Arai, who went 1-for-5, received a warm ovation from the Owls Park crowd. In 1957 career games Arai has batted .290 with 2000 hits with 279 doubles, 18 triples and 387 home runs. He has also collected 1136 RBIs and scored 1169 runs.
