| Kingfishers Watanabe Tames Sapporo Monday, July 21st , 1975 Goose eggs were the order of the day for the Sapporo Bears as starter Kakuro Watanabe shut them out, 1-0, at Kanagawa Stadium. The Yokohama pitcher struck out 4 and walked 1 while allowing 3 hits.
"Watanabe was good but he wasn't flawless," Sapporo manager Ritsuo Yoshida said. "We had a few opportunities to make something happen and we didn't do it. Not to take anything away from Yokohama, but this is on us."
In 14 starts this season, Watanabe has chalked up a 8-1 record and a 1.54 ERA.
