| Ishii Hurls No-Hitter Monday, July 14th , 1975 Fukuoka Falcons starter Shuuji Ishii said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Ishii recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Fukuoka right-hander no-hit the Kobe Bulls, 6-0, at Fukuoka Stadium, finishing with 7 walks and 7 strikeouts, facing only 31 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Ishii admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
So far in 11 appearances this season, Ishii has recorded 6 wins and sustained 4 losses. He has pitched 80.2 innings, yielded 64 hits, fanned 34 and has a 3.90 ERA.
