| Kinboshi Downed, 6-2, by Bees | Masatoshi Sakai, who finished 5th in the WL in wins with 13 in 1971, was locked in. The right-hander led the Vesutan Bees to a 6-2 win against the Kinboshi Kites at Konohana Stadium. Sakai, who led the WL in ERA with 1.72 in 1970, went the distance for Vesutan. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. Vesutan is now 69-71, while Kinboshi is 62-78.
Vesutan used the hitting of Akinari Nakamura to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bees on top, 6-1. For the game, Nakamura had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm focused for each and every pitch," said Sakai.
