The 5-4 Kinboshi win over Fukuoka was due in large part to Yamahiko Hirata. The Kites shortstop went 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Matoba Miwa in relief. His record improves to 6-3. Shinpo Yamasaki took the loss. The third-place Kites now have a win-loss record of 68-67.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 22-year old left fielder Munemitsu Kawasaki had a chance to be the hero. Fukuoka pitcher Shinpo Yamasaki had other ideas. But with two outs, Kawasaki drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Kites had themselves a dramatic win.

"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Hirata told the Kinboshi Daily. "Whatever it takes."
