Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Vesutan Bees and Kinboshi Kites.

The Vesutan Bees trumped the Kinboshi Kites, 5-4, at Vesutan Stadium. Vesutan pinch hitter Kazuo Kawano was terrific. He went 1 for 1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Niou Nagao, who finished 3rd in the EL in strikeouts with 143 in 1967, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

Kawano contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Vesutan in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-2, Kawano took a fastball from Kyuso Ikeda and stroked the home run to right. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Bees to leap in front, 5-4.

"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Kawano told the Vesutan Citizen.

The 4th-place Bees now sit at 57-58.
