Iwao Yamamoto, who finished 5th in the WL in saves with 15 in 1969, was terrific for the Fukuoka Falcons in his team's 9-0 triumph over the Vesutan Bees. His performance earned Yamamoto rave reviews. Yamamoto, the winner, moves to 10-7. He threw 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 3 walks. Fukuoka now has a record of 51-45 with the win.

The Falcons benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the fifth. With Itaru Nakamura at bat and Fukuoka leading 1-0, the Vesutan miscue allowed Fukuoka to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-0.

"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager Jack Fletchings.
