| Kites Squeeze By Fukuoka, 2-1 | Ryusuke Maeda, who finished 3rd in the EL in ERA with 3.07 in 1954, never let the Falcons get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Kites to a win, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Maeda, now 8-9. He tossed 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. The Kites bumped their record to 44-43 with this latest triumph.
Yutaka Kobayashi, who finished 2nd in the WL in RBI with 92 in 1958, had a direct impact on the outcome. Kobayashi contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Kinboshi up, 2-1.
"I like to lead by example," said Kobayashi. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
