The Fukuoka Falcons needed 10 innings to defeat the Kinboshi Kites, 6-4, at Fukuoka Stadium. Fukuoka center fielder Hirobumi Takahashi had a superb performance. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Tatsuhito Watanabe snagged the win in relief. He goes to 3-0 on the season. Toyoji Tsuda suffered the loss. The 4th-place Kites dropped to 16-15.

The climactic moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Fukuoka. That's when Ayato Sugiura, who finished 3rd in the WL in wins above replacement with 7.1 in 1972, hit a 2-run home run off Toyoji Tsuda to win the game. The home crowd erupted in celebration.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Sugiura told the Fukuoka Daily News.
