| Sailors Get Clutch Win Versus Vesutan | The Vesutan Bees got a superb performance from pitcher Art Marx, but the Osaka Sailors still won the game, 5-4. Marx threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Reliever Choei Teramoto picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Haruki Ogawa, who finished 2nd in the WL in saves with 17 in 1961, took the loss. The Bees fall to 7-18 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1963 season.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 22-year old left fielder Satoshi Hino had a real shot to win the game. Vesutan pitcher Haruki Ogawa was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Hino hit a run-scoring single. The Sailors had a walk-off triumph.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Hino told a Osaka Times reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
