Bees Use Late Rally to Win
The rain did not keep Vesutan and Osaka from finishing their game.

Osaka got a terrific game from first baseman Kikuichi Shirai. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Vesutan, 8-5. Shirai was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Kiichi Takahashi claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 1-1.

Vesutan used the timely hitting of Toshimasa Ikeda to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Bees on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Nice to get this one," said Ikeda. "Wins have been hard to come by."

The Bees, now 6-16, have not found much traction so far in 1963.
