Sapporo got a first-rate effort from pitcher Katsumasa Hashimoto, who frustrated Kyoto hitters en route to a 2-0 Bears triumph at Sapporo Stadium. The Bears improved their record to 60-80 by beating Kyoto.

Tomiyuki Kusumoto went 1 for 3 for Sapporo. The two-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Norikazu Takai. It was his 63rd RBI of the season.

"Scoring was at a premium tonight," Hashimoto said.
