Owls Upend Bears, 4-2 | Though the conditions were not ideal, the Kyoto Owls and Sapporo Bears came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
With shortstop Bungo Arai leading the charge, the Kyoto Owls defeated the Sapporo Bears, 4-2, at Sapporo Stadium. Arai, who led the EL in home runs with 29 last year, was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Koufuu Suenaga notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-0.
Naonobu Nishio, who finished 5th in the EL in wins above replacement with 4.8 in 1959, had a direct impact on the outcome. Nishio contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put Kyoto up, 2-1.
"I really like what we did out there today," Arai said after the game.
Kyoto is 63-65 and Sapporo, with the loss, 66-59. | |
