| Kingfishers Beat Owls, 8-2 | The Yokohama Kingfishers rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Munenao Shintani to a win, beating the Kyoto Owls, 8-2, at Owls Park. Shintani, now 8-14, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Yokohama is now 53-81, Kyoto 78-56.
The Kingfishers benefited from an error in the top of the third inning. Yokohama was leading 2-0 when Fujimaro Sonoda hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Yokohama in front, 4-0.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Sonoda.
