The Sapporo Bears faced a tough opponent in Hosho pitcher Fumimaro Yamauchi, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Sapporo Stadium by a final score of 4-3 in 14 innings. Yamauchi went 8 innings and allowed no runs. Sapporo pitcher Ned Burns got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Kiyohiko Takara got the loss. The win makes Sapporo 54-76.

The decisive blow was delivered by Takatoshi Yamamoto in the bottom of the 14th when he hit a solo home run off 23-year old right-handed pitcher Kiyohiko Takara to win the game for Sapporo. The home crowd went nuts.

"We were determined to pick up this win," said Yamamoto.
