| 8-5 Win Gets Sapporo to 57-52 | The Sapporo Bears beat the Kyoto Owls by a score of 8-5. Sapporo left fielder Tetsuya Tanaka deserved the lion's share of the credit. Tanaka was 2-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 4 runs for the Bears. The second-place Bears are now 57-52, the Owls 58-55.
Shinichi Takahashi came through with a big-time hit for Sapporo. The catcher smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 7-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Very good win for our guys," said Takahashi.
