| Floundering Kingfishers Lose 8th Straight | The Kyoto Owls topped the Yokohama Kingfishers, 3-1, in Eastern League action at Kanagawa Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Kyoto pitcher and Urasoe, Japan, native Ukita Tomita. Kenshin Kon closed the door for Kyoto, picking up his 21st save of the year. Kyoto has now won 3 in a row.
Kyoto used the timely hitting of Tensui Kato to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Owls on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We're learning some lessons in the school of hard knocks," philosophized losing manager Masayoshi Nozawa.
