| Owls Improve to 54-52 with 6-4 Win | Wet weather did not postpone the Kyoto-Sapporo ballgame.
The Kyoto Owls used the hitting of center fielder Naonobu Nishio to subdue the Sapporo Bears, 6-4. For the game, Nishio was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Naizen Sano picked up his 13th save of the season.
Tomonori Shimada, who finished 3rd in the EL in stolen bases with 17 in 1959, took Sapporo hurler Seikichi Nagamatsu deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 2-run home run put the Owls on top, 4-2. In all, Shimada had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 5.
"It feels good, just a great win all around," Shimada said after the game.
The 5th-place Bears dropped to 43-59.
