The Sapporo Bears welcomed the Rakisuta Rams to an night game at Sapporo Stadium.

Right-hander Naruki Shimada mesmerized the Rakisuta Rams while leading the Sapporo Bears to a 4-0 victory. Shimada yielded no runs over 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 10-11.

Kai Yoneda had a big 2-run home run for the Bears in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Sapporo leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a changeup from Kinichi Harada, who finished 5th in the EL in ERA with 3.33 in 1972, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bears ahead, 3-0.

"Naruki went out and did what we needed," said Sapporo manager Ritsuo Yoshida.

The Bears raised their record to 42-62.
