The Kyoto Owls got a rain-soaked win over the Hosho Reliables.

Tensui Kato helped his team muscle past the Hosho Reliables, 5-3. In the game, the Kyoto third baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Kyoto starter Ukita Tomita was credited with the win after throwing 113 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 8-7. Seishiro Kikuchi closed the door for Kyoto, picking up his 4th save of the year.

The Reliables had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Owls going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Minehiro Smith came to the plate. Smith hit a solo home run on a first pitch sinker from Hosho hurler Junya Yamagata. It was Smith's 16th home run of the year.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Smith. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

The second-place Owls now have a win-loss record of 53-38.
