| Arai Helps Owls Beat Kingfishers, 9-4 | At Kanagawa Stadium, the Yokohama Kingfishers and Kyoto Owls were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
No one was more impactful than Bungo Arai in the 9-4 Kyoto win over Yokohama. Arai, who finished 3rd in the EL in home runs with 22 in 1964, was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. The second-place Owls improved to 50-37.
The Owls extended their lead in the top of the fifth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Minehiro Smith drew a walk, driving in 1 run to make it 5-2, Kyoto.
"Scoring runs is scoring runs," said Kyoto skipper Tomoya Nagao. "It's important to have different ways to do it."
