| Kingfishers Upend Owls, 8-3 | Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Kyoto Owls take on the Yokohama Kingfishers.
Starting pitcher Toshinori Osada pitched well enough to help the Yokohama Kingfishers beat the Kyoto Owls, 8-3. Osada, now 4-4, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs. Hirotsugu Sasaki was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 6 save opportunities.
Naota Kodama had a big 2-run home run for the Kingfishers in the top of the second inning. With Yokohama leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from two-time All-Star Toshimasa Kobayashi and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Kingfishers on top, 4-0.
"Toshinori executed his pitches at a high level," said Yokohama manager Tommy McDonell.
With the victory, the Kingfishers upped their record to 38-30.
