| Bears Bridle Owls, 3-1 | Yoshifumi Kuramoto, who is tied for 10th in the EL in quality starts with 6, was terrific for the Sapporo Bears in his team's 3-1 triumph over the Kyoto Owls. His performance earned Kuramoto rave reviews. Kuramoto, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 4 walks. Sapporo is now 21-27, Kyoto 26-22.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Bears had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when center fielder Nobuyori Toyama hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Takamitsu Fujiwara and made the score 1-0, Bears. Toyama was 3-4 with 3 singles.
"I'm happy we won," said Kuramoto. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
