| Kingfishers Lose, 6-3, as Bears Rally | Yokohama got a terrific performance from pitcher Tatsuo Sato, but it wasn't enough to beat the Sapporo Bears. Sapporo won the Kanagawa Stadium contest, 6-3. Sato threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The winning pitcher was former first round draft pick Mario de los Santos. He tossed 94 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. With the win, Sapporo upped its record to 21-18.
In the top of the eighth, Sapporo left fielder Tetsuya Tanaka had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Tanaka stroked a 2-run single to left. It made the score 6-3, Sapporo. For the game, he went 2-5 with 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Tanaka.
