| Miners Down Chiefs, 5-2 | The Pittsburgh Miners converted a terrific effort from starter Mike Blackham into a win over the Chicago Chiefs at Fitzpatrick Park. The Miners won the game by a final score of 5-2. George Kollock recorded the save for Pittsburgh, his 18th of the season. Pittsburgh sits in 7th place in the Federal Association at 54-73.
An inflection point occurred with two out in the bottom of the first. That's when Miners right fielder Bill Newhall hit a splitter from Vern Osborne for a 2-run single. Just like that, Pittsburgh was up, 2-1.
"I know everybody in here is putting in the work," said Chicago manager Dutch Becker. "It's just not paying off."
