Starting pitcher Joe McCarthy was a major factor in the 3-1 Houston Comets triumph over the Detroit Dynamos. Bob Young finished the game for Houston and earned his 16th save. Houston currently is in second place in the Federal Association West at 44-41.

The Comets got a big at-bat from left fielder Wally Austin. For the game, Austin went 1 for 4 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 7th double of the season gave Houston a 2-1 lead.

Houston manager Glenn Carney commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
