The Vesutan Bees got a great start from 36-year-old right-hander Masatoshi Sakai, as Vesutan won the contest, 9-2, at Vesutan Stadium. Sakai threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball in the win, which allowed the Bees to grab a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Sakai pitched a complete game for Vesutan. The 36-year-old right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits. He struck out 7 during his 127-pitch performance.

"The first game of a series is kind of a tone-setter, right?" Sakai said later. "After tonight, I hope so."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Vesutan Stadium in Hiroshima.
