 | Ashby on Fire: 5-for-6 for Peoria Saturday, April 7th , 1917 Amby Ashby exploded for a barrage of base hits at Top Hats Park. The Peoria first baseman had a field day in his team's 18-7 triumph over the Toledo Top Hats, finishing 5-for-6. "My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch." Ashby must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Amby Ashby singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th. |   |
