 | Number 2000 for Ashby Thursday, July 19th , 1917 The box score from yesterday's game will show that Peoria beat the Rockford Hustlers, 5-2. It will also show that first baseman Amby Ashby went 2-for-3 for the Distillers. It will not show, however, that Ashby reached the 2000-hit mark for his career. The 29-year-old Ashby reflected on the achievement after the game. He mused: "In one respect, it's a real milestone, I guess. Yet, it's just a base hit like any other base hit." During his career, Ashby has compiled a .337 batting average and collected 2000 hits, 48 home runs and 820 RBIs. | |
