South Bend Hurler Tops in Pitcher of the Year Award Voting

George Renn of the South Bend Maroons will be adding a new centerpiece to his mantel after being tabbed for the Heartland League Pitcher of the Year Award today.

The 26-year-old hurler started 36 games this season, tallying a 20-14 record. In 304.1 innings, Renn gave up 286 hits, struck out 155, walked 107 and held opponents to a .256 average as he posted a fine 3.76 ERA.

He received 7 first place votes out of a possible 8. Richard Pettersen of the Terre Haute Coalers finished second in voting, while Bill Deusenberry of the Dayton Aviators finished third with 1 first place vote.
