 | Pettersen Holds Maroons Scoreless Wednesday, September 13th , 1916 Terre Haute Coalers starter Richard Pettersen really did a number on the South Bend Maroons, shutting them out, 4-0, on 5 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 4 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said South Bend manager Henry Ballard. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Pettersen." To date this season, Pettersen has registered 34 starts, 22-15 won-lost mark, 3.89 ERA, 307.2 IP, 130 strikeouts and 77 walks. Opposing teams have hit .282 against him. |   |
