It was a race right down to the wire, but South Bend has captured the crown - its 1st in franchise history - on the final day of the season. "Heartland League champs sounds great right about now," said right fielder Ron Smith. "The only thing better is Championship Series champions. That's still the ultimate goal, we can't lose sight of that."
