 | Distillers Vaughan Smacks 5 Hits Saturday, April 14th , 1917 It was a sensational day at the plate for Peoria Distillers first baseman Bob Vaughan, but a tough one for the team, as the Distillers dropped the contest, 11-10, to the Rockford Hustlers. Even with the loss, Vaughan was pure misery for the Rockford pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked after going 5-for-7 in an explosive display of hitting. "It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win," said Vaughan, who is the 30-year old first baseman . "Vaughan really hit the ball hard and when you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage," Hustlers manager Judson Perry told BNN reporters after the game. "I feel like we threw him some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Bob Vaughan singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th, singled in the 10th and hit an RBI single in the 12th. For the year, Vaughan is batting .394 with no home runs, 7 RBIs and 8 runs scored. |   |
