 | Sponseller Slaps 5 Hits Saturday, April 14th , 1917 It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Bob Sponseller. Sponseller went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Grand Rapids pitchers. When the dust settled on the diamond at Furnituremakers Field, he had a 5-for-6 line and a day he will long remember. And the Dayton Aviators had a win, 15-9, over the Furnituremakers. "Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview. Bob Sponseller hit a two-run triple in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, tripled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th. Sponseller is batting .343 with 1 home runs and 5 RBIs this season. |   |
