 | Spann Gets WCA #1 Pitcher Trophy Sunday, April 1st , 1917 Virgil Spann really strutted his stuff in March with 4 wins and 1 loss and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the West Coast Association. The Tacoma starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition. In 43.2 innings of work, Spann limited opposing batters to 37 base hits and a .224 batting average.
