San Francisco Draws Blanks Against Spann
Thursday, March 15th , 1917
In a seemingly effortless performance, Virgil Spann of the Tacoma Browns shot down the San Francisco Miners, 4-0, on 9 hits.

"Virgil was just locating so well and using his pitches," Tacoma manager Claude Coleman said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate."

Spann recorded 5 strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing.

"When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," San Francisco manager Charley Bruckner said in postgame comments to BNN. "We couldn't get a key hit off him."
