"Virgil was just locating so well and using his pitches," Tacoma manager Claude Coleman said later. "He wasn't leaving anything over the plate." Spann recorded 5 strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing. "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game," San Francisco manager Charley Bruckner said in postgame comments to BNN.
