| Sacramento Halts York's Hitting Steak Friday, August 31st , 1917 It was a doubly miserable day for Jim York of the San Francisco Miners, as he saw his 21-game hitting streak end and his team lose, 8-2, to the Sacramento Maroons at Ballpark of Dawson. The 32-year-old first baseman was held hitless in 2 at-bats by the Maroons.
"Anyone on a 21-game hitting streak is going to be a tough out," Sacramento manager Tony Shay said later. "But we had a plan and we were careful about it, and got it done."
This season, York has hit at a .335 clip and produced 62 RBI, 7 home runs and 71 runs. | | |
