| Lowder Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits Wednesday, September 13th , 1916 Today at Foresters Park, Jim Lowder put on an impressive display.
The Portland Foresters third baseman tagged Oakland pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Oakland Acorns by the score of 6-5.
"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Lowder said. "5-for-5 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, the Foresters manager was unwilling to offer the third baseman much praise, saying the "whole roster" is held accountable for losses.
"Jim told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager Mike Krueger said.
Jim Lowder singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
So far this season, Lowder has gotten 208 hits in 620 at-bats for a .335 batting average with 6 home runs. His stats include 76 RBIs and 85 runs scored. He has played in 160 games. | | |
