| Grimes Shuts Out Tacoma, 4-0 Monday, September 4th , 1916 Jim Grimes led the Sacramento Maroons to a shutout victory, 4-0, over the Tacoma Browns at Pacific Avenue Field.
"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Grimes recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
Grimes yielded 8 hits and had 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in the standout performance.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," Tacoma manager Claude Coleman said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Checking out his stats for the season, Grimes has notched 17 wins and 21 losses in 40 starts. His ERA is 3.13 and he's struck out 168 batters in 328 innings. | | |
