"We really thought we had the team to get into the playoffs," said catcher Hiroshi Yamashita. Before this season, the Owls last missed the playoffs in 1972. In the 25 years they have been a Baseball Association of Nippon franchise, they have made the playoffs 4 times. In the last 10 seasons, the Owls have made the playoffs 2 times.
