| 22-Game Streak Ends, Okazaki Hitless Friday, September 8th , 1961 The hitting streak that Yokohama left fielder Yonekichi Okazaki had kept going for 22 games was ended by the Kyoto Owls. Okazaki was stymied over 4 at-bats, but the rest of his team picked him up, getting the 3-2 victory at Owls Park.
"Hitting streaks come and go," Okazaki said. "It did put a little pressure on me. It's hard to be natural at the plate with something like that always in the back of your mind. If it had to end, I'm glad it was in a win."
This season, Okazaki is batting .338 with 20 home runs. His totals include 74 RBIs and 84 runs scored. | | |
