 | Montbriand Slams 5 Hits for Trenton Sunday, August 5th , 1917 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for George Montbriand -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and sparkled on the diamond at Potters Field, but the performance lost a little luster when the Artisans were downed, 12-9, by the Lancaster Turnpikes. After his glittering performance, the Trenton center fielder told the press that he "just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat." His batting theory paid dividends today as he slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. "I just wish we had added a win in the record book, too," Montbriand said. George Montbriand singled in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th. So far this season, Montbriand has recorded a .321 batting average with 115 hits, 14 home runs, 71 RBIs, 63 runs scored and a .384 OBP. | |
