| Wright 5-for-5 for Shipwrights Saturday, July 14th , 1917 Wilmington Shipwrights left fielder Bob Wright had a day to remember at Lackawanna Grounds, ripping apart the Scranton Black Diamonds and sparking the 13-8 Shipwrights win.
Wright wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-5.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Wright told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it."
Bob Wright hit a solo-shot off Guy Scarpitti in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, walked in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Looking at his stats this year, Wright has compiled a .382 batting average, while hitting 7 home runs and driving in 59 runs. He has played in 77 games and scored 56 runs. | | |
