 | Arai 1963 EL Batting Champ Thursday, October 3rd , 1963 Bungo Arai was born to be a ballplayer. "Pops always said I learned to swing a bat before I learned to walk." Arai, the 25-year-old Kyoto shortstop, really displayed his hitting ability this past season. His .330 batting average led all Eastern League hitters. He collected 130 hits, socked 22 home runs, scored 70 runs and drove in 62 runs. The EL's top batter also played in 107 games, had 21 doubles, no triples and walked 37 times. |   |
